Nuno Valente’s FIFA World Cup™ hopes have been dealt a blow by the news that a thigh strain appears to have prematurely ended the Portugal defender’s first season with Everton.

It had initially been hoped that the left-back might return as early as this weekend after missing his club’s recent Premiership matches against Aston Villa and Liverpool, but scans have revealed the damage to the former Porto player’s thigh is more significant than first thought.

Portugal fans better hope that Nuno Valente will recover or they will have quite a hole in their defense in the World Cup matches.
