Mexico’s Borgetti will miss group games
Mexico has lost one of their star strikers, Jared Borgetti, due to injury.
A statement released by the Mexican Football Federation confirmed Borgetti had injured the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg after chasing down a ball in the Iran half.
According to the statement, the extent of the injury was revealed by ultrasound and CAT scans, with Borgetti requiring between eight and ten days to make a full recovery. Further scans will be carried out in eight days time to assess his chances of returning to action.
The results mean that the Tricolor No. 9 will miss his side’s next game against Angola in Hanover on 16 June, and is doubtful for their final Group D match against Portugal in Gelsenkirchen five days later.
Borgetti is Mexico’s all-time leading goalscorer, having racked up 38 goals in 76 appearances. The prolific marksman topped the scoring charts in the CONCACAF qualifying tournament with an impressive haul of 14 goals.
