Japan’s Tanaka will not play in the World Cup

Unfortunately, both for him and his team, Makoto Tanaka will not be fit to play in the World Cup fot his national team, Japan.

Japan have admitted defeat in their bid to include the injured Makoto Tanaka in their FIFA World Cup™ squad and may now look to draft in Teruyuki Moniwa as a replacement.

Tanaka, who had been widely tipped to start Germany 2006 at the heart of Japan’s defence, pulled a hamstring before Zico’s team arrived at their tournament base in Germany at the weekend and sat out last night’s 2-2 draw with the hosts.

As with any squad change, Moniwa’s call-up will only be official when it has been confirmed by FIFA.
