Argentina do not have a good record against African sides in their opening game in a FIFA World Cup and there is enough talent in the Ivorian side to ensure the tie in Hamburg on Saturday night is keenly contested.

In Didier Drogba they boast an explosive attacking talent, but Michel stressed there was much more to Côte d’Ivoire than the Chelsea man. “There has been a lot of talk about Drogba, but we are a team, not one man. The team is more than one person, but I hope he makes a difference,” he said.

“We have grown together as a team, in the last few weeks we have been able to concentrate fully on the World Cup and I have seen a difference in them. Sure, Argentina are better on paper, but there is a lot of excitement in this squad and this game is an emotional moment for them.”
