Inzaghi, in good shape: Italy should be happy
As we already said in a previous post, Inzaghi is claiming his place in the Italy squad more and more powerful.
In the Champions League match against Lyon, he scored 2 of the 3 goals his AC Milan team managed, in order to get to the semi-finals.
After a goalless first leg in France, Inzaghi put Milan ahead with a firm header, only for Mahamadou Diarra to equalise six minutes later. Then with the seconds ticking away, Inzaghi pounced after a goalmouth scramble to slot home in the 88th minute. An injury-time effort by Andriy Shevchenko ensured the hosts’ passage to the semi-finalss.
What was his opinion when asked about the World Cup?
“The most reassuring thing is that I have improved with every game. I can’t help but be happy having scored so many goals after such bad injuries. It’s great to be fit again.”
Asked if he thought he was doing enough to earn a recall to the Italian national team, he said: “All I can do is try to stay fit and maintain this form, even though it won’t be easy. I haven’t felt any pain since I came back in October, and that’s very encouraging.”
