Schweinsteiger’s goals: straight to history

Schweinsteiger scored three goals (well, two and a half) and he is now going straight in the history books.

TSG analysis by Rodrigo KENTON (CRC)
Germany played their usual system and fielded a largely unchanged team, apart from Oliver Kahn, Jens Nowotny and Sebastian Kehl. They controlled the game from the outset and the changes in personnel did not alter their tactics at all. As usual they looked a very balanced outfit, and they moved well from defence to attack.

Torsten Frings made a successful comeback after his suspension, and he proved to be a key player in setting up the German attacks, especially with his passing out to the flanks that brought the full-backs into play.

At times Portugal had more possession, but they lacked the depth and width that Germany had. That is why Germany managed to score three goals. They played very well and deserved this victory, which rounds off an excellent FIFA World Cup™ for them.

Of course, Bastian Schweinsteiger’s two marvellous goals will stick in the memory. On both occasions he cut in dangerously from the left towards the middle of the pitch. Without doubt, it was a happy ending for Germany.
