“Zizou, help!”, says Domenech
Zinedine Zidane is expected to show what he knows best in the game against Spain. French coach Raymond Domenech thinks he will be the man to make the difference in a very tight game.
Domenech said on Monday: “The fact that it could be Zidane’s last match isn’t really the issue for us now. This is a game for the entire team in the second round of the World Cup and I’m expecting something special from him.
“I’m asking him to use his talent to help the team as I ask all the players and not just because it could be his final match.”
Domenech told the traditional eve of match press conference that in a break from tradition he would wait until three-quarters of an hour before kick-off to announce his team.
“The trick is to know at what moment Spain are going to release theirs,” he explained.
“It’s not a game. They announce a team, I’m waiting to see it. We’ll see what happens, we have to look at how it pans out with the opposition.
“It’s not a question of adapting to it but you have to weigh up your rivals’ strengths and weaknesses, that’s important.
“I’m keen to know how they’re going to play to know what to tell my players, how to tell them and who to tell.”
