Two Swedish coaches at the press conference: one for England, one for Sweden. Who was the happiest?

Sven-Goran ERIKSSON (ENG)
Michael Owen will have a scan tomorrow and we’ll see what the results are. At the moment I really don’t know, but it didn’t look very good. He was getting better and better and playing well. It’s a knee injury for sure, but I don’t know what sort. I spoke to him at half-time and obviously he wasn’t happy.

We did very well in the first half, but started badly in the second. We let them play a lot of long balls into our box. We must defend better at set-pieces – we scored two fantastic goals but it was a little annoying to concede two from set-pieces. We must defend better on Sunday (against Ecuador) but the important thing was to win the group, which we’ve done.

(Wayne) Rooney could have played for longer but I didn’t want to risk overworking him. He was disappointed with himself afterwards because he wanted to do better in the second half. I spoke to Lars Lagerback after the game about the Germany match and said, ‘Knock them out’.

I made a couple of changes for this match – I brought in Marcus Allback for Zlatan (Ibrahimovic) and I wanted Mattias Jonson for his aerial threat from set-pieces. We were concerned that if Zlatan’s injury worsened he could be out for the tournament. We have had positive developments with Zlatan’s injury but I can’t say whether he’ll be fit for the Germany game yet.

It’s early to think about Germany, but although they conceded two goals against Costa Rica they have a solid defence and a good attack. It will be a really tough game for us. We practised set-pieces a little bit more and I was pleased we could score two goals from them.

We had problems in the first half, England played well, but we were too ambitious. We lost too many one v ones. At half-time I told them to be a bit more cool. I felt we were the better team in the second half, England were in the first. I wasn’t surprised that we put them under pressure towards the end. This has happened so often that I’m not surprised by my players’ character.
