Though they do not know if Rooney will be fit to play in the WOrld Cup until the scan on 7th of June, Sven-Goran Eriksson will take Rooney with the team in Germany.

He will be back to England after two days to take the scan, but England’s coach wants to analyse Rooney’s fitness and recovery rates at their Baden-Baden base ahead of the crucial scan.

“Wayne will then return to England on Wednesday for a scan on his foot in Manchester.

“Wayne will be accompanied by the England team doctor Leif Sward who will then analyse the scan with Manchester United.”

Eriksson has until Friday 9 June to decide whether or not Rooney will be part of the squad for the FIFA World Cup finals.

His decision is complicated by fitness doubts surrounding his other key striker Michael Owen, who is just back from a broken foot and needed a precautionary scan yesterday on a tight thigh muscle.
