Interview: Justin Chancellor about England - second time
Tool’s bassist, Justin Chancellor speaks for the second time during this World Cup about England. Read his first interview here.
FIFAworldcup.com: How did you enjoy that?
Justin Chancellor: It’s getting a little bit easier to be a supporter of England - the last 15 minutes were easier than the rest!Where did you watch the game?
I watched it at my brother’s house in London, although the traffic was so bad we listened to most of it in a cab. We got to his house just before half-time and the second half was really frustrating. It was the same old England - they seem to have all the potential to do well but without really getting the results. And then it all changed. They brought (Wayne) Rooney on and his presence on the field got everyone’s excitement level up. (Aaron) Lennon was great too.How do you think Rooney’s arrival changed things?
There was certainly a psychological effect – you could hear it from the crowd, there was an element of excitement immediately.Did you ever fear an upset was on the cards?
Trinidad and Tobago did threaten with a couple of chances and I thought it was going to be a sad England story. Why do you think England struggled to break down T&T?
There are so many nerves and a lot of pressure. You can see that from the other games. They are playing a long tournament – seven games if they get to the Final – and you can see that even in Brazil’s game the other night where they were not quite going all out. But with England it’s dangerous when they do that, they are much more vulnerable like that.Which player stood out for you?
To score a goal like Steven Gerrard scored was spectacular. So how do you feel right now? I’m very happy and relieved. What are you hoping from the next match against Sweden? The next game is still a big game because it might be important to avoid Germany in the next round.
