Eriksson decided on the starting line-up
The question on everybody’s lips is: will Wayne Rooney play? And, if not, who will be replaced with?
Sven Goran Eriksson seems to know the answer to that naming Liverpool pair Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher in his starting line-up for Tuesday night’s friendly against Hungary.
Eriksson said the XI named against Hungary “would start” England’s FIFA World Cup™ opener against Paraguay on 10 June and after deciding on an experimental 4-1-3-1-1 formation, fans, pundits and opponents alike will be intrigued to see how defender Carragher fares in an unfamiliar midfield
Steven Gerrard will, this way, play a supporting striker, not the usual midfielder, like he used to. Will that be likely to replace Rooney’s spark? Will Gerrard be better in this position than in the usual one? Who knows…
