England lose to Belarus in warm-up game
England lost a 2-1 game to Belarus yesterday, but Sven-Goran Eriksson has to have mixed emotions about the game. On one hand, Michael Owen is fine, giving hope to being able to replace Rooney, who still has to wait some more days to know the final decision, and on the other hand, they lost second goal keeper, Robert Green.
Of course, the fact they lost the game is not a reason to be happy, but at this point it is not yet something to be too worried about.
Green will now be replaced by Liverpool’s Scott Carson in a 23-man squad that, despite this evening’s shock scoreline, does appear to offer Eriksson a greater quantity and quality of options than were at his disposal in Korea/Japan in 2002.
England now play host to Hungary on Sunday before locking horns with Jamaica on 3 June in their final warm-up match prior to kicking off their FIFA World Cup bid against Paraguay in Frankfurt a week later.
The teams used in the match:
ENGLAND (4-4-2): James (Green 46, Carson 53); Hargreaves, Campbell, Carragher, A Cole; Lennon, Carrick, Jenas (J Cole 62), Downing (Dawson 79); Crouch (Defoe 79), Owen (Walcott 62)
