Robinho will not play against Ghana
Wonder Kid Robinho will not play against Ghana because of a light injury he received in training.
“Robinho is ruled out of the match and will continue his physiotherapy,” said the CBF on their official Web site on Monday.
“We did an MRI scan today, there’s no rupturing of the tendons, there is an edema but the outlook is very good,” said team doctor Jose Luis Runco, adding that this type of injury usually needed five days to heal.
“We’ve ruled out any possibility of Robinho being forced out of the tournament. This idea is to prepare him for Saturday if we get a good result against Ghana.
“I believe that on Wednesday, he can start working on the training field again.”
Robinho is, as you would expect, not thrilled about it.
“I’m a bit sad and a bit upset to get injured, but fortunately it was nothing worse,” said Robinho, adding he had never suffered a muscular injury before.
“Having to stay behind at the hotel was a bit different, I’m used to going out and training,” he added.
Robinho had been on the bench for Brazil’s first two games before coming on in the second half. He was given the start against Japan and brought new life to the attack.
Robinho’s absence means Adriano will probably return to the side to partner Ronaldo in attack. However, coach Carlos Alberto Parreira could also move Ronaldinho up front and play Juninho Pernambucano in midfield.
