Viduka - Australian captain
Australia will be led from the field by Middlesborough’s striker Mark Viduka. Though the captain of the Australian team used to be Craig Moore, Gus Hdidink thinks that Viduka has shown that he has the power to lead his team to the World Cup. As you might probably know, Viduka leads by example, being all-in when it comes to his national team.
“He did very well in the qualification rounds and he took his responsibilities well when we came together,” Hiddink said. “He worked very hard not just on himself but also with the team and it’s good to have him as captain.”
In other news about the Australian team, Hiddink is really worried about his striker’s (Harry Kewell) absence from the early stages of preparation in German, because of injury.
“I’m a little bit concerned about how his development will be. He can be fit just in time for the first game but what we’re now doing is to build up the focus and working on tactics and strategy and when a player is not available it’s a pity.
Australia has a tough Word Cup group in Germany, facing Japan, Croatia and World Champions and everyone’s favourites, Brazil.
