Harry Kewell to play in friendly
Some more good news for Australia: Harry Kewel has received green light to play in a friendly match against Liechtenstein in Ulm.
Kewell hasn’t played a full international since last year’s FIFA World Cup™ playoff win over Uruguay and missed Australia’s warm-up matches against Greece and the Netherlands after injuring his groin playing for Liverpool in the English FA Cup final.
But he made an encouraging return when he scored two goals in Australia’s 8-1 win over a Dutch amateur side last Friday and coach Guus Hiddink said he was satisfied with his fitness.
“He was playing for almost 90 minutes in the amateur game … there was no reaction and we will play him for sure in the Liechtenstein match,” Hiddink told reporters.
Australia doesn’t have some serious issues with injuries and they hope to keep it that way.
The only injury concern in the Australian camp is with striker John Aloisi. He is suffering from a thigh problem but assistant coach Graham Arnold said it was not a serious injury and he could also play against Liechtenstein.
“Everyone is fine. We have total full squad selection,” Arnold said.
“It was great to see Tim Cahill get through the Dutch game unscathed and a lot of confidence it would have given him scoring the goal.”
