Fifa World Cup qualifying groups and matches - part 4 - South America
South American Zone
With just two rounds to go, Argentina and Brazil are qualified, Ecuador and Paraguay are almost qualified, while for the fourth place is a fantastic battle, Uruguay (21p), Chile and Colombia (20p) and Venezuela (18p) struggling to get a place in the play-off.
Like everyone expected, Argentina and Brazil didn’t have any problems, and the direct matches were superb. First there was the match in Belo Horizonte (Brazil), won by Brazil with 3-1, with all Brazilian goals scored from penalties by Ronaldo. And then there was the Argentinean revenge, in Buenos Aires, won by Argentina with the same score, 3-1 (Crespo 3, Riquelme 18, Crespo 40 – Roberto Carlos 71).
