Viduka says it’s Aussie time
I had a talk the other day with my friends and we all felt that Australia is maybe one of the best teams missing from the World Cup in the last editions (that includes Romania, too, but that is another story…). Because of the qualifying system, they have to play a playoff match against the 5th seeded in the SouthAmerican qualifying group. And, to any extent, no South American team is to be taken lightly.
Now, Mark Viduca, striker for the Australian national squad says that it is their time to come to a World Cup final.
”Qualifying for Germany in 2006 would mean absolutely everything to me in football terms and the way it looks at the moment I don’t think I’ll be around for the next World Cup finals because I’ll be nearly 35 by then,” Viduka said.
“So this is my last chance but not just mine — there are a lot of players who are in the same position as me.”
This is the goal for a player that had his ups and downs, but it was percieved as one of the best strikers in Europe at some point.
