Referee jailed in Germany
As Germany prepares for the hosting of World Cup in June 2006, former referee Robert Hoyzer was jailed for match-fixing.
This jailing comes as a consequence of more and more scandals of match fixing, not only in the Bundesliga, the German first division, but also in Italy, i.e.
The scandal in Germany and further investigations into corruption in matches in countries including Belgium and Brazil prompted FIFA today to unveil its “Task Force for The Good of the Game.'’ The body will also look at issues including ownership of more than one club by the same person and payments to agents.
Germany’s biggest soccer scandal for three decades emerged as the country prepares to host the sport’s four-yearly showpiece and sparked a countrywide investigation with police raiding the homes of referees and players.
