Germans say NO to player blogs during World Cup
In an earlier post, we told you about some players that signed a contract with MSN to get us their daily feelings about the World Cup in Germany 2006.
Unfortunately, the German fans will not be able to have the same feed-back from their favorites. The German Federation forbidden the players from having their own blogs online during the World Cup.
Team manager Oliver Bierhoff said the coaching staff wanted players to devote their full attention to the World Cup.
While I do believe the players must be focused to the game, do you really think that a player playing in the World Cup will think about anything else? Come on, why should the fans be the victims here? I would really have liked to know what the players think about their games, if I were a German. I understand that a lot of comments (especially bad and flaming comments) can throw a player off the track, but do not allow comments and that’s solved.
The coaching staff decided to lay down the guidelines again after striker Kevin Kuranyi had signed an agreement with a software company to write an online diary during the World Cup. The player’s agent has now been informed of the ban.
Kuranyi will have quite a problem now, as he already signed.
The German officials really push it when the recommend the players not to play in a charity game on the 22nd of December. Now, come on, we all know that those games are played just for fun. We play a lot tougher games when we meet with our friends. I would like to see Ballack playing against or with his future teammates of Real Madrid.
Bierhoff has also urged potential squad members to turn down invitations to take part in a United Nations benefit match in Dusseldorf on December 22.
The “match against poverty” is between a team led by Brazilian striker Ronaldo and one captained by French midfielder Zinedine Zidane.
