Do not buy World Cup tickets form Ebay!

If you intend to buy a World Cup ticket from Ebay, think twice. You could be the victim of quite an adventure.

Soccer fans who missed out on the official World Cup draws will run a big risk if they buy unauthorised tickets via online auction house Ebay, a German official said on Thursday.

As many of you may know already, the tickets for the World Cup are personalised to the buyer’s name and they are not transferable unless special circumstances are met.

Buying a ticket from another buyer, you will have to assume the identity of that person and, ultimetly, get banned from the stadium.

Though you might think that, given the large number of people, the officials will not check every person’s name, do not be so sure, they say:

“Why are you so sure? We have a lot of stewards on the spot,” Zwanziger said.”If we have indications, firstly that the security situation is critical, and secondly that people are coming to the stadium without officially issued tickets, there will be intensive checks.

“And then those who don’t have (official tickets) will be spotted, and they’ll have paid a lot of money and they’ll be sent home. So I’d advise them to spare themselves the frustration.”

On a more happy note, it looks like there still are tickets for sale, since a little over 42000 tickets were returned:

Separately, Germany’s organising committee has announced that 42,495 tickets had been returned by their holders for resale. The tickets were returned by FIFA from various federations that did not use sell their full allotted amount.
